A hi-hat has two jobs
The playing surface detects stick hits; a dual-zone model distinguishes bow and edge. The controller tells the module how far the hi-hat is open. A cymbal can trigger a sound while its foot control is connected incorrectly or mismatched. For that reason, check stick response and pedal response separately.

Standard Phantom silicone two-piece hi-hat
The standard Phantom 12-inch silicone hi-hat lists dual-zone bow/edge triggering, an included clutch and no internal connecting cable between its cymbals. That description does not mean the module connection is wireless. Check its own setup instructions and package contents rather than assuming the EVO controller and parts are interchangeable.

Before ordering and during setup
- Identify your exact module and current hi-hat/controller, including whether the TD-27 uses a digital hi-hat.
